It is a code word used to refer to the socially accepted hour of the day to consume cannabis i.e. around 4.20pm. April 20 (4/20 in the US form) is also celebrated as marijuana’s global holiday. The term originates from San Rafael High School(1971) among a group of pot-smoking teenagers called the Waldos, who would meet at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur at 4.20pm to get high.
