A strain is a naturally occurring or artificially bred variety of sativa, indica cannabis or a combination of both species. A strain is produced to increase the unique characteristics of the plant e.g. the yield of the plant, its tolerance to different environments, its potency levels, physical attributes etc. Medical marijuana has various strains that produce different results for each condition, meaning that while one strain is perfect for muscle spasms, another may be great for chronic pain. Breeders give distinct names that could either bear a similar name to the parent or reflect the plant’s place origin.
